Jindřichův Hradec

Jindrichuv Hradec, one of the beautiful Czech towns, is situated in the southwest part of Ceskomoravska vrchovina. Many visitors come every year to see numerous historical and architectonic monuments and enjoy the panorama-view of the castle and the chateau over the lake Vajgar. The oldest known document mentioning Hradec is from 1220.

The owner of the land was at that time Jindrich I - he was the founder of the dynasty Hradec. He built a castle in Gothic style replacing a smaller one. The settlement underneath the castle wall became a town in the mid 13th century, bearing the name of its founder Jindrich I. The town emblem remained from the dynasty Hradec - a golden rose with blue background. King Vladislav II added to the emblem two lion kings, the letter W and a crown in 1483. The town was in possession by three dynasties: by the Hradec until 1604, by the Slavata until 1693 and the last were the Cernin. The old town centre has been classified as a historical monument.
