Hradec Králové
Hradec Kralove in eastern Bohemia, with its 100.000 inhabitants, is only 100 km far from Prague. Dominating for the town are the confluence of the Labe and the Orlice and many green areas.
Hradec Kralove nowadays is an industrial and commercial town with many educational institutions and it is also residence of the bishop of the diocese. There are many cultural opportunities in Hradec Kralove: the theatres, the Philharmonic Hall, the Town Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. The Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque Houses of the old town remind the time, when Hradec Kralove was residence of the Czech queens.
Two well known architects, Kotera and Gocar, gave the town the present form, partly in the spirit of Art Deco and Functionalism. Among the Czech towns, Hradec Kralove has the attribute as the town of Architecture.
